Plant: Meconopsis 'Lingholm'

I was at Longwood Gardens March 8th, 2009 with friends and they spotted this amazing poppy. I’d actually never seen one ‘in real life’. They are absolutely beautiful flowers!
Random fun facts:
- The Blue Poppy is a rather persnickety plant and not too many people have had success in growing it in the US.
- This particular variety is fertile, which is uncommon to other types of blue poppies.

The Specs:
Family: Papaveraceae
Genus: Meconopsis
Species: x sheldonii
Cultivar: ‘Lingholm’
Common Name: Blue Poppy, Himalayan Poppy
Country/Region of Origin: Upper Burma, Tibet, and the Yunnan provinces of China
Characteristics: The plant can reach between 24 to 36″ in height and 15 to 18″ wide.
Life Span: Herbaceous Perennial
Hardiness: USDA Zones 3 to 9
Cultivation requirements: Prefers slightly acidic soils, moist soils (shouldn’t be allowed to dry out between watering), light shade to filtered sun, and ideally do well in woodland like areas.
Typical Pests, Diseases, associated problems: Its said that all parts of the plant have poisonous properties if ingested. So stop eating poppies people, thanks. Haha.
Propagation Method: Firstly by seeds, but if the plants are matured the root base can be divided.
